Our quality protectors are thin, breathable, and don’t “crackle” with your every move. They are constructed with tested pore sizes and special zippered flaps to keep out dust mite allergens and bed bugs, and some are also waterproof to protect your mattress from stains.
Pillow protectors help keep moisture and stains (from spills, sweat, and even nighttime drool!) away from your pillow. Laundering not only reduces the downproof quality of a pillow, it can be a labor-intensive process; simply washing a pillow protector, on the other hand, is easy and saves time.
Since featherbeds are nearly impossible to wash in a washing machine – and we don’t recommend dry cleaning – featherbed protectors are a must. Like our other protectors, it keeps moisture, body oils, and spills from ruining the appearance and performance of your featherbed.
The house dust mite – or more specifically its highly allergenic fecal matter – is one of the most common causes of allergies. These microscopic relatives of spiders and ticks also contribute to other woes, including eczema, hay fever, rhinitis, and sinusitis. As anyone with allergies or asthma knows, dust mites can make life miserable.
Even if you haven’t been diagnosed with an allergy or asthma, you might wake up with a stuffy nose, runny eyes, or a headache in the morning. If this is the case, your discomforts could be your body’s reaction to the irritating dust mites.
Dust mites can easily retreat into folds in mattresses and seams on box springs. But if the mattress and box spring are covered in a material they can’t penetrate – there’s nowhere for them to live. Deprived of warmth and moisture (our body heat and the perspiration we release as we sleep) and nutrition (the skin flakes we all shed naturally), a dust mite is out of luck!
Plastic or vinyl covers are impermeable to dust mites, and make a good choice for box spring covers. The tight weave of the fabric allows air to circulate, but blocks dust mites and their allergen-causing molecules. Dust mite allergens average around 10 microns in size. The pore size of our protectors have been tested to be 4.99 microns to keep out these particles. Protect-A-Bed® products are listed as a Class 1 Medical Device with the FDA.
