What is a Duvet Cover?
Simply speaking, a duvet cover is to a comforter (or duvet), what a pillowcase is to a pillow.
It is also called a comforter cover, even though most people search for it under duvet cover. Also, the word “duvet” (pronounced “due–vay”) is Old French for down, and we find it a more elegant sounding name for the covers enhancing Cuddledown’s fine down and synthetic comforters!
Why Use a Duvet Cover?
In a nutshell, you can protect and also beautify your bed by slipping a duvet cover onto your comforter! When you’ve invested in a fine quality down or synthetic comforter, a duvet cover is a less expensive and easy way to protect your bedding. Comforters are not easily cleaned, nor should they be laundered regularly (see our video for instructions on how to clean a comforter). However, a duvet cover can easily and regularly be removed and washed along with your sheets and pillowcases.
Moreover, a duvet cover is perfect for a quick and easy room revamp — you can change looks as often as the mood strikes you. Add a warm, cozy flannel duvet cover for the winter months. Our elegant, breathable linen duvet cover or lightweight voile or batiste vibrant floral duvet covers are ideal for spring or summer. Not interested in changing it up so frequently? Choose a versatile, classic solid comforter cover in season–spanning percale or sateen. Cuddledown duvet covers coordinate with our bedding collections, from sheets and pillowcases, to shams, bedskirts and even decorative throw pillows, so you can create the perfect look for your master suite.
Quality Duvet Covers
At Cuddledown, we pay attention to detail. The comforters we make here in the USA all have sewn in loops in the corners, and virtually all of our duvet covers are made with ties in the corners and button closures so you can easily secure your comforter to keep it from sliding around while you sleep.
In addition, most of the fabrics for our duvet covers are Oeko–Tex® certified, meaning they have been tested to be free from harmful chemicals and safe for you and your family. This is a nice complement to the downproof tickings of our comforters that are also Oeko–Tex Certified.
And finally, our product development team searches the world for the finest in bedding and many of our duvet covers feature exclusive designs created from unique prints, whether derived from antique textile documents or artwork commissioned exclusively for Cuddledown.
