In 2009, Tom and Kate Chappell, the founders of Tom's of Maine, started a new family business creating soft, comfortable next-to-skin worsted wool apparel entirely on American soil. In 2011, in partnership with Cuddledown, they decided to offer their full line of comfortwear garments on Cuddledown.com.
Ramblers Way has the highest standards for fine quality products made from natural fibers, plus they are focused on environmental sustainability, continuous improvement, and the goal of outstanding customer satisfaction.
Not Your Grandmother's Wool
There's a reason Ramblers Way uses the word "comfortwear" – its fine wool is like no other – soft, lightweight and ultra comfortable. If we didn't tell you, you might not even guess that it is wool!
The Rambouillet breed is known for its superior wool, and Ramblers Way spins this superfine wool fiber to create a very fine yarn which allows for the soft, lightweight knitted wool used in their comfortwear. What's more, a "worsted" yarn construction keeps fibers parallel to avoid the typical wool "itchy" feel. And finally, a unique Windspun™ process removes any excess fiber to avoid potential pilling. The net result is a fabric that is light, breathes, doesn't make you itch, and has the insulating and odor absorbing properties unique to wool.
Ramblers Way's devotion to sustainability and the environment extends to the very colors they use in their comfortwear garments. The rich colors are developed from the dried extracts of plants, like indigo, red madder, osage, logwood and pomegranate. The process of using these dyes requires hands-on, artisan care and results in a truly unique piece of clothing. It's beautiful, colorfast, and easy on the environment.
Made in the USA
Ramblers Way's fine comfortwear garments are designed and manufactured in their partners' factories in the Carolinas and New England, by people whose families have been operating for generations and share their high standards for quality and sustainability. Their packaging is made from FSC-certified paper and soy ink.
Ramblers Way's quality Rambouillet wool is grown on the Chappell family sheep farms in Maine and on ranches in Colorado, Montana, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, and Utah who partner with them to meet their customer standards for superfine softness and sustainable farming practices.
