Handcrafted, eco-friendly, beautiful décor
for your home – Woven palm baskets and floor cushions
Sustainable traditions by skilled craftsmen and women
For thousands of years, the artisans of the southern mountains of Mexico have followed the traditions passed down from their ancestors. Known worldwide for their exceptional weaving, dyeing, and spinning, these craftsmen & women create items that are both beautiful and practical for the home.
The palm leaves used to weave baskets, floor cushions and more are sustainable and ecologically friendly. This is due to their over-abundance in Southern Mexico as well as the technique used to harvest the leaves which has been passed down through the generations. These artisans use their ancestral knowledge to harvest the palm leaves carefully (allowing the plants to remain and thrive), and dry them with sunlight. Once dry, the palm leaves are boiled and then braided in a tight weave for dyeing. Various vibrant shades of dye are then applied to the weaves which are subsequently sewn together.
Beautiful yet practical home décor
The woven baskets, although lightweight and pliable, are surprisingly tough and durable. They’re perfect for storing items such as books and magazines, knitting, crafts, children’s toys, and more.
Filled with a firm foam cushion, the woven floor cushions are a unique and portable solution for extra seating, and can be used as side tables or coffee tables as well.
The finely braided design in conjunction with the natural hues of the palm and the contrasting vibrancy of the dyes make these practical items a beautiful addition to your home décor. Plus you can feel good knowing they are made from a sustainable fiber that has enabled such a long-standing tradition of craftsmanship.
