We use shells with three different thread counts for our pillows. The feather/down blend pillows and our 600 European Duck pillows use a 227 thread count cotton twill shell.
The
600 Fill Power Damask Stripe Pillows have a 300 thread count cotton shell. The
700 Fill Power and the
800 Fill Power European White Goose Down pillows have a 450 thread count cotton sateen shell. And our
800 Fill Power European White Goose Down European White Goose Down Pillow has a luxuriously soft batiste shell. Due to the constant pressure of the head on a pillow, all Cuddledown sleep pillows are piped on all four sides, to ensure no down leakage at the seams.
Our 600 White Goose Down Pillow and higher fill power pillows are all made from the same high quality fabrics we use for our comforters. The exception is our feather/down blend pillows. The fabrics on these pillows do not have as high a thread count as our comforters, due to feathers' natural attributes. Feathers have hollow quill shafts with stiff filaments radiating in a curved three-dimensional space. This makes feathers an excellent fill for firm support, but the quills can damage pillow tickings made from fine yarn fabrics. We, therefore, use a sturdy 227 thread count twill cover as this is the most durable shell for feather/down blends.
