What is the difference between down and hypoallergenic down?
Answer:
The word hypoallergenic simply means "is less apt to cause an allergic reaction." Hypoallergenic down has gone through a careful cleansing and sterilizing process to remove dust, dirt, and other impurities. During processing, the down is sorted and filtered numerous times to ensure the cleanest dust-free product possible. The down is separated from dust and large feathers, washed at a temperature around 120° Fahrenheit, and then dried between 220° and 240° Fahrenheit. It is the excess dust from improperly washed and processed down that causes many people to believe they are allergic to down, when in fact they are allergic to the dust. All of Cuddledown's down has been carefully washed and de-dusted to be hypoallergenic. However, it is always best to check with your physician if you have serious doubts about your reaction to down.
