How To Choose Utility Bedding

How to Choose a Bedding Protector

Step 1. Decide the primary function your bedding protectors will serve

  • Everyday use and protection?
  • Waterproof protection?
  • Dust mite and allergen protection?
  • Bed bug protection?

Step 2. Consider what type of fabric and construction you prefer

  • Encasing closure for extra protection against dust mites and allergens
  • Zipper closure for easy changing and care
  • Quilted with plush synthetic for extra comfort
  • Organic and certified to be grown and manufactured without harmful chemicals

Step 3. Select the right size to properly fit your bedding

Be sure to know the size of your bedding to determine whether you need oversized bedding protectors. For instance, it's important to measure the depth of your mattress to ensure that the pocket depth of your chosen mattress protector will fit properly. Several of our mattress protectors come in both 9" and 18" pocket depths. Cuddledown also offers bedding protectors to fit Extra Long Twin and California King size mattresses.

Tips on Measuring Mattress Depth
  • Measure only your bare mattress — be sure to remove linens, blankets and any other bedding.
  • Use a ruler or tape measure to measure the depth from top seam to bottom seam.
  • Because a pillow top mattress can extend higher than the measurement from seam to seam, we recommend estimating the highest point of your mattress, including the pillow top.
  • Measure in several places to ensure that you have the right fit.
  • If you believe the measurement falls between two depths, we recommend going with the larger depth.
Tips on Measuring Box Spring Depth
  • Measure only your bare box spring.
  • Use a ruler or tape measure to measure the depth from top edge to bottom edge.

How to Choose a Mattress Pad

Choose your preferred fabrication based on what added comfort you would like the mattress pad to provide.

Important: Be sure to know the depth of your mattress to determine whether you need an extra deep mattress pad.
